It doesn't matter how you spell the name of this car — woodie or woody — but what matters is that everyone adores them. They've come a long way from their days serving as utility automobiles to lug items around.
Historically, San Diego Woodies has hosted the largest wooden-bodied car show in the country, Wavecrest, annually for over forty years.
I jump out of bed very early Saturday mornings for the yearly meet. I'm at Moonlight Beach where the event takes place as the cars come rolling in and before the crowds arrive to admire the 350 Classic Woodies from 1920s to 1970s. Once the event is in full swing beginning at 8 a.m. it's difficult to get a decent photo without people in the scene or their reflections on the cars. Joining early with me are a number of photographers who are happy to be back after an absence last year due to the pandemic.
