In terms of science, we would recognize that water sustains and brings life to many things. Animals walk miles in search of water in a dry and weary desert. Plants sprout up all along the Nile river and rivers all around the world. Water is necessary for our survival. It is used to create energy through dams on rivers. Point being, water is a very important thing. Many view it as a source of life. Without water not much of anything would survive. There are two stories that come to my mind when I think about this. There was a poem written in the Psalm 42 that states, "As a deer longs for flowing streams, so I long for you, God. I thirst for God, the living God." There is another story that comes to mind. Jesus one day was walking in Samaria and as a Jew He would not have been viewed highly as the Samaritans and Jews did not get along. He walked to a well and there was a woman there who had committed many acts of adultery. The fact that Jesus would even talk to this woman was seen as culturally crazy. Jesus asked the woman for a drink of water from the well and there offered her living water that would never leave her thirsty. The woman was amazed to hear of such a thing. He was not referring to some mystical water from the ground that would cause her not to be physically thirsty, but rather something much different. As I described water in a scientific way of being a source of life, Jesus was explaining to this woman that He alone was the true source of life, not just life here on earth, but life eternal.

We know rainbows for their renowned beauty and for the fact that they form when the sun hits water particles in the sky at 22 degrees usually in mid morning or late afternoon. But, there is a whole lot more to a rainbow than what many may know. It is a symbol to remind the world that God would never flood the whole earth ever again. We know the science behind a rainbow and many other natural wonders that leave us breathless. What we don't realize is that creation responds to its Creator. Rainbows form across the sky as a reminder and a promise. Winds come to a calm by a word from the mouth of Jesus. The whole Earth and everything it contains was formed by a word spoken from its Creator, the LORD of all of heaven and earth. What is so special to me about rainbows is that they truly have symbolized promises made to us and answered prayers from God. I asked for a rainbow on my engagement day and there was a rainbow, I asked for a rainbow over a lake on the day of our wedding shower and there was a rainbow over a lake on our wedding shower as a promised reminder of the covenant to come.

I know many have wondered what paradise will be like and on this night I felt like I got just a very small glimpse of it. It was very peaceful, the stream was running gently with a gorgeous background of the mountains behind me. However, there is one thing alone that makes paradise truly paradise. It isn't pretty meadows, soaring mountain peaks, or crystal clear waters, not to say that these may not be parts of it. Paradise would not be paradise without God. Paradise without God would not even be possible since He is the One who made everything all that is in it. The only way to paradise is through Jesus the Son of God who made a way for all to have eternal life by His death and resurrection that freed us from our sin debt. A paradise without God is no paradise at all. A place without God's presence is called Hell and it is a real place, it is a place of torment and anguish that no one can leave once they have entered it. The choice is up to you. It is the single most important decision of your life because it determines your eternal destiny beyond this lifetime. What makes paradise truly paradise is God's presence. Without God's presence, there is no life. God's presence brings life and the absence of it brings death.

The purpose of a lighthouse is to safely guide a ship to shore and give light to the harbor it will enter without hitting any dangerous rocks that could go unseen. It could also be thought of as a ray of hope. Imagine being stuck out at sea for days and to see the wondrous light from the lighthouse letting you know that you are within reach. Just as a lighthouse provides a ray of hope in a physical storm, Christ provides hope in the midst of life's storms that come against us and try to take us under. The LORD is a refuge to those who call upon His name and they will find rest under His wings!

Springtime waterfall season is finally upon us. The waterfalls are flowing near full force and as it continues to rain the water levels are continuing to rise. I am reminded as I think about how these waterfalls run and bring needed water and life to the things around it about how Christ is the living water that gives us eternal life. Our lives result because of His overflowing waters of grace and life that constantly nourish us as the waters nourish the earth!
