User / BEO- A Window into the Past / Making Sand sculptures, Brittas Bay, early 1950s
'Beo' Online Local Heritage Archives / 3,833 items
Photo shows the Kavanagh family, from Monkstown near Dun Laoighaire, enjoying a day out at Brittas Bay in county Wicklow during the early 1950s.
On the far right is the lady who donated this lovely image, Claire (neé Kavanagh) Connolly, along with her sister (Jill) and mother.
Her dad (Art) made the fantastic sand sculpture on show.

The 4km beach at Brittas Bay (Irish: Cuan an Bhriotáis) has been a popular summer destination for Dubliners over many decades. These tourists were not just day trippers as the nearby caravan parks ensured that many of them holidayed there for longer periods.
