Protesters called out the names of women whose deaths they think were not properly investigated. Local police have been accused of corruption, and the new district attorney, who is African-American, is trying to establish a Community Integrity Unit to investigate such allegations of wrongdoing by law officials. Funding this unit is another of the demands of participants in the peaceful protest, which was sponsored by a faith-based organization, the Metro Organization for Racial and Economic Equity (MORE2). (As with all my work, constructive critique is welcome, and faves are appreciated.)

Relatives of John Keith Calvin participated in a Black Lives Matter Protest outside city hall last night. Much of the protest focused on demands to free Calvin, who has spent 18 years in Lansing Prison for a murder he says he didn't commit. Another man says he pulled the trigger and agrees Calvin is innocent. Local police have been accused of corruption in this and other investigations, and the new district attorney, who is African-American, is trying to establish a Community Integrity Unit to investigate such allegations of wrongdoing by law officials. Funding this unit is another of the demands of participants in the peaceful protest, which was sponsored by a faith-based organization, the Metro Organization for Racial and Economic Equity (MORE2). The Metro Organization for Racial and Economic Equity, a faith-based organization, sponsored this peaceful protest.

The protesters' demands are:
1. The Unified Government of Kansas City, Kansas and Wyandotte County must fund a bilingual hotline where members of the community can call to report if they have been victimized through police misconduct;
2. The Unified Government (with Major David Alvey) must fund a unit within the district attorney's office that can investigate poor police conduct;
3. The Unified Government must open a true community-driven process to choose the next Chief of Kansas City Kansas Police Department-KCKPD;
4. The Unified Government must create a municipal identification system and restrict collaboration between ICE and local law enforcement.

(As with all my work, constructive critique is welcome, and faves are appreciated.)
