When I started working out at Brave Enough CrossFit a few years ago, my doctor told me to stop because the workouts would be "too hard" for me. Well, when my feminist anti-ageist self hears words like that, she switches doctors (to a younger female MD who encourages my workouts) and keeps right on exercising. At our gym, you don't compete against others but against yourself, and when you make a PR (personal record), you get to ring this bell and everyone applauds and cheers. My husband and I are both convinced these workouts are extending the length and quality of our lives. I turned 59 years old this summer. And yesterday I achieved a PR of 115 pounds for two back squats, so I got to ring this bell. (As with all my work, constructive critique is welcome and faves are appreciated.)

While shopping for tonight's dinner, I was consulting the grocery list on my cell phone when I realized I didn't yet have a photo for Flickr Friday and maybe I could take one at the store. This week's theme is "Unaware," and I thought no one would know if I snapped a quick shot right then and there. Delighted with what I thought was my subtlty, when I got home and took a look at the image on a larger screen I realized that -- while the teenager in this image is indeed unaware -- if you zoom in you can see the older woman is looking at me out of the corner of her eye.
