This is why I wasn't able to go to church Sunday. After waking up, I discovered that a crew had come in the night to repair the broken water main that had been bubbling for three days. They had dug a pit at the foot of our driveway, and water department trucks filled the streets all around our house.

Day 200
A water main located at the end of our driveway broke and has been bubbling like this for three days. Water is so powerful. This started out as a little crack in the road and has been gradually eroding away chunks of the street. Apparently there have been so many broken mains in our area that they're not going to be able to get over to fix this one for another day or so.

These guys were amazing. We'd gotten word the afternoon before that they were repairing another water main break a block over and would get to ours as soon as they were done. Sounds simple enough, right? Turns out they started working on the other break about 5 in the afternoon and worked all night, skipping meals. Did I mention there was a thunderstorm? They worked through the storm. Then abour 5 in the morning they started digging at the end of our driveway. Another crew came to relieve them shortly after that. It was well deserved relief.

By mid-afternoon the main was repaired, and we had water service restored. The crew told us there had been so many breaks that the street repair crews were running about 20 days behind the water main repair crews, so I guess we'll have to live with this very rough road for a while.

Day 205
This is the final installment (I hope) in my series of images documenting repair of the broken water main at the end of our driveway. A city crew came to remove all the construction cones and caution tape. For some reason they left a solitary barricade topped by a light that blinks yellow at night. The road is fully driveable now.
