F-102A at the former site of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), July 1993.

The sign on the fence notes that the 123d Fighter Squadron of the Oregon Air National Guard operated F-102A aircraft from 1966 to 1971.

By the time we took this picture, OMSI had closed this facility near the Portland Zoo and had moved to their current site along the Willamette River.

(Additional information: January 8, 2015)

One online source indicates that this aircraft may have been F-102A s/n 57-0776, and that it was eventually moved to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum.

However, the same source also indicates that F-102A s/n 56-1368 is at that museum. That matches the markings of the one F-102A I have seen there.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can confirm the actual identity of the aircraft in this photo and its eventual disposition.

Canadair CL-13B Sabre Mk. 6, RCAF s/n 23363

The Royal Canadian Air Force operated this Sabre from 1954 to 1974. It was then purchased by Boeing, which used it as a chase aircraft.

I photographed it at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington in July 1993.

Convair YF2Y-1 Sea Dart, BuNo 135763, outside the San Diego Aero-Space Museum in June 1995.

(The museum, located in San Diego's Balboa Park, is now known as the San Diego Air & Space Museum.)

The Sea Dart was a unique attempt to adapt Convair's delta-wing fighter technology to a seaplane. Although the type was never produced in quantity, this is one of the two examples that actually flew.

For more about the Sea Dart, see:

"The High and Mighty One," NB-52A s/n 52-0003, on display at the Pima Air & Space Museum, Tucson Arizona.

This is the oldest B-52 Stratofortress in existence, and after the B-52 flight test program it served experimental programs at Edwards AFB for many years. It may be best known for its role as one of the two "mother ships" for the X-15 program.

Fairchild C-119G, marked as Tanker 137. This aircraft appeared to carry civil registration N5216R when I took this photograph at Battle Mountain, Nevada in April 1998.

Within the same month, I photographed another C-119 that also carried civil registration N5216R at Hawkins & Powers Aviation in Greybull, Wyoming.

Determining the true identity of some C-119 air tankers is complicated. See:
