This is the Kodak Instamatic 44 that my family bought sometime around 1969-1970.

More information about this model can be found here:

(Thanks to flickr user HaarFager!)

This is a recent picture - I still have our family's Instamatic, which was the first camera I ever used. I took my first pictures with it when I was about six years old, and I was still using it on school trips, at camp and around the neighborhood until I was twelve.

The next camera in my life was a Kalimar SR200, a re-badged, Soviet-made Zenit-E 35mm SLR. That camera really opened up the world of photography for me.

My family lived in Bremerton, Washington from 1969 to 1972 while my father was stationed at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

My family's house is down the hill on the right, at 215 El Camino Boulevard. That was a rather grand name for a street without any sidewalks or proper street lights. The structure on the left is a small kiosk that contained about six mailboxes and boxes for newspaper delivery. Mail and newspapers were not delivered to each house individually.

The body of water in the distance is Dyes Inlet, part of Puget Sound.

This picture was made using a Kodak Instamatic 44 camera and "126" film cartridges.

This pictures shows my brother Bruce, on the left, and me on our sleds. It rained much more than it snowed during the winter in Bremerton, but when it did snow we made the most of it.

My brother Bruce, on the left, and I are riding down our street on our sleds. The street was steep and long enough to make the ride fun.

This is a picture of me, about to blow out the candles on the birthday cake for my fifth birthday in 1970. The children in the background are friends of mine from the neighborhood.
