The pilot's name on the canopy rail is CDR Bill Switzer. CDR Switzer survived ejecting from another F-14 aboard USS Constellation in December, 1981. He had also flown as a member of the Blue Angels in 1971 and 1972.

The RF-8G was in the sunset of its career. This aircraft would be sent to desert storage in February 1982.

The U.S. Navy's last A-7E aircraft would continue to serve until 1991, including combat in Operation Desert Storm.
