View of the San Jose State University "Aero Lab" ramp, December 2003.

Photographed from the cockpit of the former United Airlines 727-22, N7015U.

The aviation campus on Coleman Avenue was closed and demolished in 2010.

N7015U, Boeing c/n 18307, was a 727-22 that was included in United Airlines' first purchase of the 727. It entered service with UAL in 1964 and served continuously until it was withdrawn from service in 1991 and donated to San Jose State University's Aviation Department. UAL painted the aircraft just prior to its donation, but by 2005 when I took these pictures the sun and weather had taken their toll.

N7015U survived as a fixture at Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) for several years after SJSU discontinued their A&P curriculum and moved their aviation facilities to Reid-Hillview Airport (RHV). The aircraft was broken up for scrap in 2010, around the time that the rest of the former aviation campus was demolished.

To the best of my knowledge, United Airlines donated two other 727-22 aircraft at the time they donated N7015U. One went to the City College of San Francisco aviation department at San Francisco International AIrport, and the other went to Purdue University.

The mid-cabin door on the right side of the 727-100 was deleted in the longer (and more numerous) 727-200 series. The oval air intake for the center engine was unique to the first 727 series, becoming circular in the 727-200.
