Chief Mountain, situated along the international border between Alberta and Montana is blanketed by a layer of snow in the early fall months.

The mountain range encompasses part of Glacier National Park in Montana and Waterton National Park which is collectively referred to as the International Peace Park.

The foreground shows the transition zone or foothills between the prairie landscape and the Rocky Mountains.

An old windmill stands as testimony to the use of wind power in days gone by to pump water into water reservoirs. This generally was the only means of supplying water for grazing cattle on the relatively dry prairie landscape.

It appears that solar energy is now used to supply that power once provided by wind to windmills.

Agricultural landscape view during spring across the prairie region east of Tofield, Alberta, Canada.

Windmills used a natural source of renewal energy to pump water into a catch basin or trough to provide water for cattle in a pasture. As with the iconic grain elevator, these old relics are slowly disappearing from the prairie landscape.
