Part of the colony of Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) nesting on Bonaventure Island just off Perce, Quebec, Canada.

It appears to be totally unorganized but the nests are evenly spaced and returning adults are observed flying directly to their appropriate landing spot next to the nest. In some cases they are pecked if they get too low over a neighbours nest on their landing phase.

Current Northern Gannet population is estimated at 116,000 birds on the Bonaventure Island colony.
