Assignment: Abandoned
Every neighborhood has them, some more than others. I’m talking about the houses, factories, barns, gas stations, sheds etc. that have long since been abandoned and left to rot away. This week I encourage you to go exploring and bring back images of these places to share with us. Feel free to use photo editing software to enhance the mood of your image, if you wish, but no combining multiple images.

Dare: See if you can evoke some emotion with your image. Some of these old structures have a romantic air about them, some are sad, some are frightening! What do you feel? …see if you can capture this in the frame.

Restriction: No people please.

What it took:
I stopped by an abandoned dairy farm on my way to work and snapped some shots. It was actively worked up until about a year and a half ago. It sits right on a main, secondary road and is apparently owned by Mr. Trespassing (first name No) as his name is plastered all over the place. Being right in the middle of town now, I believe it's scheduled to be demolished and the land used for higher value endeavors.

Other than glass from the broken windows and some tagging, the place is pretty clean and empty. The only two items not part of the building were the wheelbarrow with a missing wheel and this chair. I thought this chair, just sitting the middle of the room was kind of interesting and took this shot.

To get a gritty look, I pushed a pretty deep S-curve to get some contrast, increased saturation and then added heavy high-pass sharpening. For most photos the sharpening would have been too much, but I think it works well for this one.
