I took a couple of panorama shots whilst up here at the top of High Cup Nick. I preferred the previous one with the basalt columns prominent on the right foreground, whereas this one is central to the head of the valley looking straight back down towards Appleby.

It was pretty nippy stood up here but the conditions were just great for a winter panorama. You can see the prominent seam of the Great Whin Sill stretching along the crests on both sides of this classic "U" shaped valley.

I arrived early again in the Lakes to make the most of this crisp winter weather we are enjoying at the moment. I went to Tewett Tarn first, pre sunrise and tried a different composition from my previous visit, but it was a bit of a disappointment with the sunrise obscured by clouds. I then went to a deserted Castlerigg stone circle followed by a quick walk up to the top of Latrigg Fell.

From the lofty height of Latrigg, I could see that the light was going to get better and the Derwent Fells were likely to get some nice early light from the East, so I set off for a walk up Walla Crag. The walk up was exciting with ice and snow making footing interesting. Once on the top the view across Derwentwater were really nice with the Derwent Fells coated in snow as they were revealed by the clouds lifting.

So here is the lovely panoramic view from the top on Lady’s Rake.

Well I've been meaning to get up here this winter and it seemed a decent forecast, so after a dawn shoot and a couple of other locations in the Lakes I headed over to Dufton, near Appleby and went for it.

It was good walk all the way up to the head of this spectacular valley and it took me a good hour and a half to get to this point. On the way up I saw two men speeding down the Pennine Way and said good afternoon to both of them, but they had their heads down like they were somewhere else and resolutely moved on silently!

Anyway, after a 30 minute shoot up at the top in freezing conditions, I had a couple of decent pano's in the bag, as my 16-35 wasn't wide enough to get the full vista in. I set off back down and I was stopped twice on the way down, (which took me just under an hour), by two chaps who asked me if I was in the "Spine"?

I hadn't a clue what they were talking about and it wasn't until I got home later and watched the news that I saw there was an endurance "Montane Spine Race" on this stretch of the Pennine Way! So, I at least found out why my “backbone” was being questioned on my descent!

This is a spectacular glaciated "U" shaped Valley where the Great Whin Sill runs horizontally through this area creating sheer sides and some spectacular columnar rocks. I had hoped to stay here for sunset, but as you can see there was a bank of cloud in the West. So I managed this shot with the light before things closed in. Great day out all in all!

The lovely Andalucian hill town of Ronda, situated in the Sierra is split by the gaping river gorge called El Tajo. The Gorge is spanned by the Puente Nuevo an 18th century bridge. The River Guadalvin falls 130m down in a sheer waterfall, whilst whitewashed houses cling to the cliff face. This is actually 7 photos merged together to give the full picture of this marvellous location.

Another pano taken on my journey back from Skye last year. I had been sorting out my SD cards and I found a series of shots I had taken hand held during the journey, which I had not down loaded for some reason. Probably because I had taken so many whilst up on Skye!

This was two frames merged into a pano showing this majestic South Shiel ridge line capped in a veil of low cloud as the November sun was trying to burn it off. The mountain sides were a golden colour as the grasses and bracken entered their winter hue. The journey home was a long one, as I couldn't resist stopping regularly to capture the majestic conditions as we travelled through the Scottish Glens.
