Making my way back down from Pen Yr Ole Wen and the vista of Tryfan was beguiling!

This was the last real shot I took on my long day out in Snowdonia, so it has a resonance, since the place is now in lock down!

My day started with dawn by the "lonely tree" at Llyn Padarn, then a lovely couple of hours in the Fairy Glen before heading here for a walk with the camera gear!

Tryfan is such a photogenic mountain with its "peak" shape and towering over the Ogwen Valley at 3010 feet (917.5 metres). I first climbed it back in the late 1970's and have been back a few times since. There appeared to be a bit of drama up there late in the afternoon as I took some shots of a helicopter hovering around the summit for quite a while! The lake you can see in the right middle ground is Llyn Ogwen with the A5 running through the valley!

First light at the lonely tree on the shores of Llyn Padarn, Llanberis. It meant a 4.30am alarm call and 2 hour drive, which I would say is dedication! That is until I met a chap here who had travelled 6 hours from Margate to get a shot of this little iconic tree and as the water levels were pretty high and I was standing smug in my thermal wellies, he just proceeded to take off his boots and socks and waded in the freezing waters and sharp stones! Hero or Mad?

It was rather fortuitous that I chose to head to Snowdonia as later in the day the Welsh Assembly Government decided to issue a travel ban on trips here, so the dawn till dusk I spent in Snowdonia, socially isolating, could be the last for a while!

I will post some long exposures I took here at some point as well!

I spent an hour or so all alone in the Fairy Glen near Betws y Coed waiting for the light to enter the gorge.

It is really a magical place to spend some time. The water levels were pretty high and the volume of water coming down the glen was huge, leaving mystical trails in the water when taking a long exposure. The light didn't really get going or produce any shafts of light, but I did like this view with the rock in the centre of the flow with the light trailing past giving it an ethereal feel.

This enchanting gorge on the River Conwy near Betws Y Coed taken on my way down to a short family break in North Wales. My previous shot shows the same scene the morning after Storm Gareth passed through, with this place just a raging torrent and the water level some 10 feet higher. Hard to believe it was the same place. this is a long exposure, giving a more serene view of the gorge.

Early evening light on the side of Afon Lloer as it falls down to the Ogwen Valley in Snowdonia. The shapely peak of Tryfan rises on the other side of the valley.
