Lake Michigan Shoreline at Saugatuck State Park.
This is a combination of sand, coal dust, iron, and organic material. All blown into Lake Michigan from the western shore, carried over the years across the lake by prevailing westerly winds and prevailing westerly currents. Some of the coal and iron comes from shipping on the Great Lakes. It only shows at certain times of the year under certain conditions in different places. While I consider it pollution, it does make for intresting designs.
