No idea where it came from. There were two identical birds that appeared several weeks ago hanging out between our two private drives. We would see them off and on but hadn't seen them for a couple weeks. Today, this one was out and I hope the other was still around but we finally got a shot of it. They've been very skittish. I know nothing about chickens and what breed this one is... pretty, though.

Two really good birds last week at the San Leandro Marina. Distant and not good lighting but I am always interested in seeing the LTDU.

What a surprise when we went back to the Marina to see if we could get better looks at the Long-tailed Duck and this little Rock Wren popped up right in front of me. I had just put the doubler on my camera for the LTD and thought I was too close for focus but I wasn't. Not rare, but a bonus bird for sure!

Tried out my new Sony 300mm 2.8 lens yesterday. This Red-throated Loon popped up so close right in front of me so I just cropped for the head. Can't believe how light this lens is at 2.8 plus super sharp and fast focusing with the 2X teleconverter.
I'll just have to get used to 600mm instead of 840mm at times but am very happy to have a light lens when we go out hiking instead of my lumbering big lens. Not giving up my big lens but nice to have options. I got rid of all my other Sony lenses a couple months back because I was never happy with the 200-600 and also had the 70-200 II but hardly used that one except to take photos of my cats. 😸 Nice to have some versatility with the 1.4 and 2X teleconverters too!!
