I was so busy capturing the composition I wanted, I didn’t even notice the anti-crepuscular rays in the sky. It was a wonderful bonus in the final image.

"AIR....lines..."
First light over the Utah Badlands October 2023.
We have traveled to this area countless times over the past number of years, and every time I visit....I see something completely new and different. Such is this image. I began flying my drone before the sun hit the horizon. Although it was quite dark, I knew the area and had no problem navigating to where I wanted to go safely. I positioned my drone basically where I wanted it and began to compose my shot. Just as the sun hit the horizon, I was ready.....and...I was lucky. The light just happened to fall in the perfect spots. Here is the first of many images to follow from my recent 2 week trip to the geologic heaven of Utah.
DJI Air 2S. (PLEASE view large and in a dark area for best details)

"Milky way over an ALIEN land..."

This particular early morning gave me a few unique opportunities for capturing the milky way over different foregrounds. This area was the second spot and a later morning shot for the sky. We scouted for numerous hours during the day and then used a track we had saved on our GAIA app, to find the exact location for the composition in the dark. That was an adventure of it's own!!! After capturing the milky way images, I waited a couple of hours for the sun to begin its early morning illumination. This is a time blend of 2 images. The camera is never moved between shots.
Somewhere in undisclosed in Utah 4-8-2022.

Best viewed large for details.

Sky: 15 images stacked with Starry Landscape stacker for noise reduction ISO 10,000, F2.8, 10 seconds.
Foreground: ISO 64, F11, 20seconds.

"Milky way meets sunrise"

One of the main reasons for going to Utah for our very brief 4 days was to get a couple of milky way shots. We got very lucky on one early morning. It was the morning of the new moon, which means very dark skies and lots of stars. We had clear skies and no wind. We arrived at our destination along the rim of this overlook at 2:24am. We had scouted our compositions during the day which made it a bit easier, although NOT easy to set up again. Using some lights to illuminate the foreground, we set up 2 compositions....one vertical and one horizontal. We shut off the lights when we were all set up, focused on the stars and began to photograph the night sky. We waited there without ever moving the cameras to capture the first rays of sunlight at sunrise. We refocused and began to shoot our canyon foreground at sunrise. This image is basically 2 images blended together to capture the foreground and milky way together. It's an exposure blend, not a composite. This is done in Photoshop by hand. I do not use any programs for blending images. The camera was never moved during the entire 6 hours that we were there.
