Opleeuw Castle
Opleeuw Castle was owned by the van Opleeuw family until 1469. Then the manor came into the possession of the family of Mettecoven (1469), who remained lords of Opleeuw until the end of the 18th century.
In 1694, the castle was sacked by French troops.
By marriage, the castle came into the hands of Baron de Woelmont in the early 19th century. Around that time, the castle was extensively rebuilt. A final building campaign dates from 1874. The classicist castle is demolished and replaced by the current, neo-Baroque building.
In 1905, it was sold to the de Grady family, who sold it three years later to M. Cassalette, a German officer. After World War I, the property is therefore placed under sequester and sold by the tax authorities.
