A whole day with rain and i started to get in a very depressive mood. Did i travel 20.000km to see some rain at this famous location? Around 4 it stopped raining and at 5 the sun started to peak through the clouds. I drove to the rock and set up my tripod and waited. Around 6 it was raining again behind and to the right of me, but in front a Rainbow was hitting the rock which bathed in direct sunlight....lucky me..!!!
From the theme The days of Film with only Fuji Velvia 50 (there was never a better one) and Fuji Provia 100F slide film.
Enjoy...

In the southern part of Morocco is the little town of Erfoud and from there you can make journeys to the large sand dunes of the Erg Chebbi desert. All i did was climbing a sand dune and waiting for the sunset. Nothing going on, till this local passed by with his long shadow in front of him.

Every evening to many people gather here to make this picture, so you have to be early and do not let you push away...or better, stand beside me because i stand in front.
Title comes from the book from Andrew Collins who bought this picture many years ago as front cover for his great book about The Search For The Source Of A Lost Civilisation.
The editor removed the boat and the people but i like them inside to give scale and life to the image.

One of the reasons i always wanted to visit Costa Rica was to photograph these beautiful frogs. And after a long search with a perfect guide i found some in Tortuguero N.P and this one became the most famous and my personal favorite. Although i'm not a nature photographer, so now and then i like to make pictures like this.
It's a 1:1, no crop, full size. The frog is about 7 cm.

Amunherkhepeshef.
Visiting Egypt means most of the times a visit to Luxor and especially to the westbank to the valley of the Kings. And although there are beautiful tombs with stunning decorations, i would suggest a visit to the valley of the Queens and especially to some tombs which were build for young children. There are two famous ones, Khaemwase and Amunherkhepeshef.
And it is this last one were this picture was taken.
The paintwork is stunning, if it's painted last week, fresh and bright with great colours and superb artwork....considering this is made around 1150BC..!!!

Amunherkhepeshef (you see him on the left side) was the eldest son and appointed heir of Pharaoh Ramesses III. Like many of his brothers, he was named after a son of Ramesses II, Amunherkhepeshef. He died when he was about fifteen years old. His well preserved tomb, QV55 was excavated by Italian archaeologists in 1903-1904.

This picture is from 1992, when i was there again in 2001 they placed large glass panels in front of the paintings to protect them as much as possible. Making pictures like this was not longer possible without having bad reflections from the glass.
From the theme "The days of film".
