The territory of the village Gordes occupies some of "Les Monts de Vaucluse", a group of mountains and hills in the Luberon Valley. Up to 1996, the main attraction were the works of Vasarely in the Chateau de Gordes.

Victor Vasarely (1906 - 1997) bought the run-down Château at the end of the 1960s and had it renovated at his own costs to house his works. For unknown reasons, the Vasarely Museum was closed in 1996.

For more works of Vasarely refer to my Flickr Album "Frankfurt, Städel, Victor Vasarely - Im Labyrinth der Moderne / In the Labyrinth of Modernism"
