The origins of the Abbey Sant'Antimo, a Benedictine monastery, are obscure and eventually might date to the time of Charlemagne, but there is no proof of this. The abbey is located near Caselnuovo dell'Abate, a district of Montalcino, in the province of Siena. The Abbey was built with honey-coloured travertine in a style which you would expect to see in Burgundy instead of Tuscany.
