The porch shows from left to right: Bishop St. Himerius of Cremona, Madonna and Child, St. Homobonus, patron saint of the Diocese of Cremona. The sculptures were created in the early 14th century by Marco Romano.

St. Himerius of Cremona (in Italian: Sant' Imero Vescovo), a native of Calabria, died in ca. 560 and his relics were brought to Cremona in 965.

St. Homobous (in German Sankt Gutmann), born Omobono Tucenghi, was a married layman who believed that God had allowed hm to work in order that he would be able to support people living in a state of poverty. His name is derived from the Latin homo bonus ("good man"). He died on November 13, 1197 and was canonized in 1199 at the urgent request of the citizens of Cremona.

The frieze depicts the so-called Antelamic Calendar, showing the works of the months.

The entrance to the Terrazzo belltower is situated under the portico of the Cathedral where a statue of Giovanni Baldesio is displayed, wearing something like shorts and holding a ball with his upright arm and a second ball under his foot. This refers to a popular legend with a historical background:

When Cremona was under the reign of the Holy Roman Empire, the town had to give the emperor a solid ball of gold, weighing 2 kilos, as a tribute per year. Tired of the situation, the city launched a challenge: Giovanni Baldesio, Gonfaloniere of the city, challenged Henry IV of Franconia, son of Henry III to a duel, and in case of victory the city would no longer have to pay the tribute. Giovanni Baldesio won and Cremona became a free municipality. It might well be that the duell was a ball match and Giovanni Baldesio' arm holding a golden ball made it to the official coat-of-arms of the city and province of Cremona.
