Canopy Tower, Panama
First bird, first day. We arrived at the tower during a heavy thunderstorm. After the rain let up we went up to the observation platform for our first look around, and this was our first bird. About a week later we had one distant scope view of her very vivid male counterpart, but otherwise never saw any cotingas again, so this was a lucky bird to catch.
The observation deck of the tower allows you outrageous access to the birds that occupy the upper canopy.

It is a good idea to memorize the sound that this bird makes, so that you can see it a few times, and then tune it out later. We heard it everywhere and it is a tiny bird, hard to track down.

Canopy Tower, Panama
Continues to be one of my favorite neotropical birds. I especially love to see them gliding in between trees.
