Bok Tower Gardens, Florida

This was one of my favorite birding places for this Florida trip. Picked up some lifers and had a very nice time communing with nature there - tons of flowers, butterflies, and birds - a very beautiful place to visit.

Flamingo, Everglades National Park

Just returning from 3 weeks of family, friends, and birding time in Florida. Lots to catch up with.

The Swallow-tailed Kite was one of the two birds that I most wanted to see in Florida, and was a big reason why I chose a few days in the Everglades. Loved watching them, and they are amazing flyers! I had suspected that they would be tough to shoot, and this was definitely true - hard to expose in black and white, and the flight pattern is unpredictable. Had a bit of luck the last day shooting, and let this be the last bird of the trip.

Bok Tower Gardens, Florida

I am just completely in love with Painted Buntings. I was pretty sure that would happen when I finally found them. Now you know why I kept going back to Bok Tower Gardens.

Barred Owl, Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

Another Florida birding site that I highly recommend. Large, with diverse habitats and loads of great flora and fauna.

It took my northern brain a few minutes to wrap itself around the idea of crayfish as owl food! This parent collected quite a few for the nest and then decided it was time to enjoy one itself.
