Buteo jamaicensis.....another juvenile on Strawberry Hill. This was a very vocal hawk, always wanting to know where its parent was, and the parent was generally quite near. Like so many juvenile Red-tailed Hawks he was very cooperative for a photo shoot. He made a lot of great faces, but this was my favorite.

Cyanocitta stelleri ....this juvenile was further developed and was just starting to get his blue breast feathers. Here you can see that he has spotted me and so he made himself look much larger by fluffing out all his feathers (oh so ferocious!) .

Sialia mexicana..last week when we saw these juvies they were all just begging for food in the trees. Yesterday they were are all in and out of the trees playing. This game was something like "king of the weed stalk". One bird would sit atop a large weed and another would come topple him off.

Sayornis nigricans......the two juveniles on the right had been squabbling over a dragonfly caught by the bird towards the back. It was more than he could manage and his sibling was trying very hard to grab it. Then the parent (on the left) steps in and appears to be telling everyone to shut up already and give up the bug. They obliged and the parent flew off with the bug, both juniors following.
