The little fruits that the parakeet is eating are quite tasty. The Restaurant Nogalito where this photo was taken has a lovely garden planted, and they planted these trees specifically to attract the parakeets. This is another bird that we heard much more often than we saw. Their camouflage is excellent.

Mexico, nest site in the mountains outside of Puerto Vallarta
Have just returned from a week in Mexico - our first birding trip south of the border. Fantastic weather and excellent birding; 70+ birds that were new to both of us! I think that I got photos of at least 55 of these new species(a lot of photos to work through). I thought that I would start with the best experience we had - Alejandro Martinez Rodriguez of Birding in Mexico provided us with the privilege of observing nesting Military Macaws in a nesting sanctuary environment. A truly amazing experience.

The tree cavity is where they will build their nest.
