When I first looked at this picture., I thought movie poster! The merciless predator speeding towards it's cute., hapless and helpless victim. All looks lost! Or is it? Makes you want to go see the movie?! I love the image because it tells a story all in a single moment. The peregrine Falcon is the the fastest bird on the planet. (it is possible for a peregrine in ideal conditions to reach speeds of up to 200 mph (321kph) in a dive., yes read that again!) Its streamlined body, powerful muscles and swept-back wing shape are perfect for fast flight., so your looking at a phenomena., and a movie poster!

Those mesmerizing eyes almost look straight through you

The Short-eared owl is a spectacular animal but it's the eyes you'll never forget

Great for day or night time hunting yet they're not the owls primary method for detecting prey
Sensitive hearing is what they most rely on

So If you're a Vole in the grass not wanting to becoming the owls evening meal best advice is to keep very very quiet!
