The brown bear (Ursus arctos) is a species of bear distributed throughout the Northern hemisphere. Weighing up to 130–700 kg. The smallest subspecies is the European brown bear, with mature females weighing as little as 90 kg.
Digging and hunting: Claws are mainly used for digging. Unlike the claws of other large predatory animals such as lions or tigers, brown bear claws are not retractable, giving them a dull edge compared to the claws of other predators. When hunting, the brown bear uses its sharp canine teeth for neck-biting its prey. Brown bears, like tigers, ambush their prey with force.
Speed: In spite of their size, some have been clocked at speeds in excess of 56 km/h. Along with their strength and deceptive speed, brown bears are legendary for their stamina. They are capable of running at full speed for miles at a time without stopping. [Wikipedia]

This buddy was definitely about 2m high and - I am sure - must weigh about 300kg. I took him with a Canon 5D & Sigma 120-300/2.8 @ 132mm when my nephew threw peanuts to him. He was about 1,50m away from the lens.

I was in the Grünau zoo this sunday (July, 1st ) with my two sons (both 5 years old) and my nephew (10). My nephew was feeding this brown bear (ursus arctos) from a wall, the bear was about 4m below. He threw peanuts to him and the bear caught it with incredible skill.
After some time he stood up and reached maybe up to 3m, i. e. he was 1m below. I leaned over the wall and took a couple of shots. with my 120-300, which was nearly to long sometimes, even on the full format of the 5D.

BTW: the boys had a lot of fun and also the other visitors who were watching this little intermezo.

The Northern Bald Ibis, Hermit Ibis, or Waldrapp, Geronticus eremita, is a large bird found in barren semi-desert or rocky habitats, often but not always close to running water.
These birds were very familiar in our Austrian Alps but faced near extinction here a couple of decades ago. As a result of a program to reinstall them, they now can be seen more often again.

I got him in Wildlife, not in a cage, in Grünau/Upper Austria.
He had no fear, I got very near, about 2m. Maybe my best wildlife shot so far.
