An adult Great Blue Heron brings food to the nest on Armand Bayou. I apologize in advance for the mediocre quality of this video: hand-held at 400mm, pointing up, from a rocking kayak. But it answers a couple of questions posed by local observers of the nest regarding heron parenting behavior. 1) Yes, the three remaining chicks are still being fed, even though they are as big as the adults and fully capable of flying, and 2) The menu, at least at this stage of development, is a full-sized mullet. The video plays at three-quarters real-time to more clearly reveal the action (notice the victorious fledgling swallowing the mullet at second 17), so the audio is a bit deeper, sounding even more pig-like than at normal pitch.
