Red leg warmers.....how to keep cozy and look cool!

Photographed at the Fulton Street Fair in San Francisco's SoMa (South of Market Street) neighborhood. The fair has been going on since the 1960's. Today, over 250,000 people gather annually for this event. It is the world's largest leather event and public nudity is allowed.

For decades, San Francisco was known for its “unrestricted public nudity.” This meant that residents and tourists alike could casually roam the streets of San Francisco wearing nothing more than the skin they were born in. However, in 2012 a ban on public nudity was put into place and by 2013 public displays of nudity became illegal.

Today, however, there are some places in town where one is allowed to take it all off. The Fulton Street Fair has been crafted for those looking to explore their exhibitionist side (another is the Gay Pride Parade in June). Participants are free to shed their clothes and inhibitions as the nudity ban is lifted in this police-issued designated area once each year.

The man in this photograph is known as "Mr. Smiles". Seems that he is well known around nudist circles in San Francisco. Should you be interested, Smiles maintains a web address at www.flickr.com/people/140131293@N06/ He states that "I am an avid exhibitionist. I love to be nude for people and in public. I get naked for friends and neighbors frequently as well as attending outdoor events that allow public nudity. I enjoy being the ONLY ONE nude in a group or crowd of clothed people. When I visit my friends or neighbors, I immediately take all my clothes off at the door..... always!"
......to each his own!!

Tattooing has been practiced all over the world since ancient times. It is a form of body modification where a design is made by inserting ink, dyes and pigments, either indelible or temporary, into the dermis layer of the skin to change the pigment. These two men, seen at the Fulton Street Fair in downtown San Francisco, have taken the art to its extreme having been tattooed in almost every available spot on their bodies. Their tattoos appear to be essentially colorful, artistic and decorative rather than symbols of devotion or expressions of love. Apparently, they have a need to show this art in public as they are allowed to do once each year at this event.

"Inked" is an urban term meaning to have many tattoos or the act of getting tattooed.

You can see many interesting things at the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco's 'SoMa' (South of Market) District. It's hard to figure out what to check out first. The fair-goers often come dressed in their best, with latex, leather, rubber and other fetish clothing. Nudity is also permitted and, like these guys, you can sometimes see some truly dazzling displays of tattoos and body paint. Tattoos can be displayed on any body part but rarely have I seen them so colorful and in such profusion.....not an inch to spare!!

The two tourists on the left have, obviously, never seen anything quite like this. And, BTW, the 'full monty' is a reference to total nudity.

Posing for a selfie in your birthday suit is something you might see only at San Francisco's annual Folsom Street Fair.

The Folsom Street Fair, begun in 1984, is an annual BDSM (Bondage/Discipline, Dominance/Submission, Sado/Masochism) and leather subculture street fair held in September. The Fair takes place on Folsom Street between 8th and 13th Streets, in San Francisco's South of Market (SoMa) district. The event is California's third-largest single-day, outdoor spectator event and the world's largest leather event and showcase for BDSM products and culture.

Punishment for a teddy-bear. The wooden 'pillory' (also known as 'stocks') is a device that was formerly used for publicly punishing offenders. It consists of a wooden frame with holes in which the head and hands can be locked and is a means for exposing one to public scorn or ridicule.
