Cyperus papyrus, better known by the common name 'Papyrus Sedge', or 'Nile Grass', is a species of aquatic flowering plant belonging to the sedge family Cyperaceae. It is a tender herbaceous perennial, native to Africa, and forms tall stands of reed-like swamp vegetation in shallow water. The plant is probably best known as the source of ancient paper.

Tortoises are fascinating creatures known for their distinctive and intricate shell structures. The shell serves as both armor and shelter for the tortoise. Shell textures differ across species; some have smooth surfaces while others display rough 'scutes' as seen on this tortoise. The patterns on tortoise shells can be highly intricate and varied. These patterns often serve as effective camouflage, helping the tortoise blend seamlessly into its surroundings.

Busking is the act of performing in public places for gratuities. According to a recent ruling, buskers need no license or permission to play provided they make no "noise that can stop the public from resting". Buskers can be found everywhere on the downtown streets of San Mateo, California....most are good and they often add a pleasant sound and atmosphere to the streets and plaza's in this beautiful city.

This photograph depicts an adorable moment as a tot is mesmerised by the sounds coming from the busker. Seen and photographed on Third Street in downtown San Mateo, California.

Leatherleaf Mahonia, botanically known as Berberis bealei, is an upright evergreen shrub with foliage of large, leathery leaves. Fragrant flowers open for 4-6 weeks in the winter and give way to these grape-ike clusters of glossy, round, blue-purple berries in the spring. They attract pollinating insects and are great early-season bird forage. The lustrous evergreen foliage retains its color throughout the seasons.

Seen and photographed in the lush confines of Central Park in San Mateo, California.
