The Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in Margraten (Limburg) is the only American military cemetery in the Netherlands. The cemetery site has a rich historical background, lying near the famous Cologne-Boulogne highway built by the Romans and used by Caesar during his campaign in that area.
In May 1940 Hitler's legions advanced over the route of the old Roman highway, overwhelming the Low Countries. In September 1944, German troops once more used the highway for their withdrawal from the countries occupied for four years.
The cemetery contains 8.288 American war dead and covers 65.5 acres.

The Rhine Falls is a waterfall located in Switzerland and the most powerful waterfall in Europe. The falls are located on the High Rhine on the border between the cantons of Schaffhausen and Zürich.
They are 150 metres (490 ft) wide and 23 metres (75 ft) high. In the winter months, the average water flow is 250 m3/s (8,800 cu ft/s), while in the summer, the average water flow is 600 m3/s (21,000 cu ft/s). The falls cannot be climbed by fish, except by eels that are able to worm their way up over the rocks.
The Rhine Falls were formed in the last ice age, approximately 14,000 to 17,000 years ago.
We spend a half day here. Not just because we were doing mostly long exposures (which, obviously, takes time), but also because I find it fascinating to watch the power of water!

De twee kolossale kraanschepen van Heerema, de Thialf en de Sleipnir, naast elkaar aan de landtong bij Rozenburg.
De Sleipnir is vernoemd naar de achtvoetige hengst van de Noorse god Odin. Het schip is 220 meter lang, 102 meter breed, biedt plaats aan 400 werknemers en weegt het 119.000 ton. Sleipnir heeft in september 2019 al hijsrecords voor kraanschepen gebroken met een lift van 15.300 ton.
Het half afzinkbare schip heeft twee kranen aan boord, die elk 10.000 ton kunnen tillen. Dit vermogen maakt het geschikt voor de grootste offshore-klussen, zoals het bouwen van windturbines op zee, het ontmantelen van oude platforms of het bouwen van de belangrijkste offshore-constructies.
De Thialf meet op zijn beurt 201,6 meter bij een breedte van 88,4 meter. De kranen, die tot 95 meter boven het dek reiken, zijn in staat tot een tandemlift van maar liefst 14.200 ton, waardoor het multifunctionele vaartuig bijvoorbeeld kan worden ingezet voor de installatie van funderingen, platforms en pijpleidingen of voor de ontmanteling van gas- en oliefaciliteiten op zee.
