Toy Earth globe made of metal, rotated by a clockwork mechanism that also made small models of a spaceship (?) and a Sputnik revolve around the Earth.
The toy dates from 1957. Western Africa was still largely a French, Zaire was still a Belgian colony, Angola and Mozambique still Portuguese, Nigeria and large parts of Eastern Africa still British colonies.
The toy dates from the same year as the launch of Sputnik 1, so everyone's idea of what a satellite looks like was a polished metal sphere with some wires sticking out of it. Crewed spaceships were still four years in the future, but the makers of the toy clearly expected them to come, though they would have claimed artistic licence concerning the looks.
The red object in the background is a different toy, representing a space control centre.
The toy is actualy two years older than the camera that was used to photograph this.

Mercedes Benz C-111-II prototype, 1970
Originally, this car was fitted with a Wankel type piston-less rotary engine, but Daimler Benz was dissatisfied with the lack of longevity of the power plant and gave up on the concept. The car was later used as a test bed for high-power Diesel motors.
