Cayo Levantado

The "Bacardi Island" (as they call it again because of a commercial many years ago) is a small green island of about 1 square km off the coast of Samana, in the northeast of the Dominican Republic. It has a memorable beach of fine white sand and beautiful water of all shades of green and blue. It is easily accessible by boat from the port of Samana. Although we have built a resort, the luxurious Grand Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado, although there are hundreds of sunbeds, two restaurants, a beach bar and a street with the usual shops, the beach of Cayo will remain in my memory for its beauty, softness and color of the sand, the sea enchanted. This dream sea from January to the end of March is filled with whales. About 80% of humpback existing worldwide come here to give birth and nurse their young. La “Bacardi Island” (come ancora la chiamano per via di uno spot pubblicitario di tanti anni fa) è una piccola isola verde di circa 1 km quadrato al largo della costa di Samanà, nel nord est della Repubblica Dominicana. Ha una spiaggia memorabile, di sabbia bianca finissima, e un’acqua incantevole, con tutte le sfumature del verde e dell'azzurro. Si raggiunge facilmente in barca dal porto di Samanà. Nonostante ci abbiano costruito un resort (il lussuoso Grand Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado), nonostante ci siano centinaia di lettini, due ristorantini, un bar sulla spiaggia e una stradina coi soliti negozietti, la spiaggia di Cayo resterà nei miei ricordi per la sua bellezza, la morbidezza ed il colore della sabbia, il mare incantevole. Questo mare meraviglioso da meta' gennaio a fine marzo si popola di balene che partoriscono i loro piccoli al largo di Samana' (l'80% circa delle megattere esistenti in tutto il mondo viene qui a partorire e allattare i propri piccoli).
