This is a 42-second video of some wild horses I watched Friday on the Salt River. I've seen wild horses on the Salt River before, but it's always a thrill for me. There was a rather large herd in the woods - I'm guessing 50-75 horses grazing and occasionally getting into a kerfuffle. Frankly, I needed a shorter lens (I had my bird 200-600mm lens). This video was taken with my cell phone. It was interesting watching the dynamics and social hierarchy of the herd. You had your stallions with their harem of mares and you had your bachelors (non-breeding male horses). There was one bachelor that ...um... lets just say that he grew a 5th leg while we were watching him, indicating to me that perhaps he's ready to start a harem of his own (I didn't include that video in this clip π). All-in-all a really cool experience. I'll defiantly have to get back there, hopefully with a shorter lens. If you go, donβt forget your Tonto Pass. $8 at any convenience store in the area.

We spent a little time on Jasper's 12th Gotcha Day playing in the back yard. So I took a 17 second slow motion video with my phone and then added some music and special effects on my computer.

Christmas gifts are so often about the kids. Fur kids included. A 1-minute video that summarizes Jasper's Christmas, including sleeping off his Pig's Ear coma. π

Last week, Jean and I were preparing our yard for winter overseeding when this roadrunner came strolling into our yard. Jean had her back turned to it so I whispered, "Turn slowly, there's a roadrunner right behind you!" She turned slowly and rather than running off as we would expect, the thing came forward towards us. it hung out with us for about 5 minutes picking insects out of the grass (or weeds our case π). It was no more than about 10 feet (~3m) from us. Finally it just went out through a hole in the hedge and went about its way. We were pretty surprised as they're usually pretty skittish. This is a kind of crappy phone video, but it gives you a sense of the bird.

I pieced together a few hummingbird battles at 1/4 speed. It's fun to watch the battles at this speed where you can see what's happening.
