Kennesaw Mountain Georgia. Pigeon Hill. 2/179/2017.
This species is here all year round. We have them breeding in my yard and they come to suet in the winter. When they start to sing you know spring is coming. They've been singing for weeks now especially on warm sunny days, and we've had a lot of those this winter, but now a vicious cold snap threatens all the new deciduous growth. Louisiana Waterthrush should be arriving in my area along with Yellow-throated warblers over the next week, soon accompanied by black-and-white warblers, and black-throated green warblers. Last weekend (3/3 and 3/4) I was on the Florida coast south of Tallahassee and heard my FOS Northern Parula singing, and pished up a second while looking for Seaside sparrows along the gulf in sparrow habitat. No doubt he had just crossed the gulf.

Pine Log WMA. White, GA. 3/18/2017.
This is our earliest spring migrant here in Georgia. By 3/25, just a week after this image was taken, I heard at least 5 singing at this location. The larger of the streams here are stocked regularly with rainbow trout. My idea of a great day at this location is to go out in the early morning to warbler, and see the trout truck make a dump, and soon catch your limit to take home to eat. 3/25 I drove by some fishermen, and one of these LOWA was singing his heart out right above them in a stream side tree.

I heard 6 of these singing yesterday, 3/25/2017. This species has a bi-modal spring migration pattern, and currently it is on the upswing of the first peak. It is thought this first wave is primarily those of the species that breed in the southern Appalachians. A few will mate up and stay at this location but most will venture further north in search of a mate.. Pine Log WMA. White, Georgia.

Black-and-white warbler. Pine Log WMA. White, GA. 3/29/2017.
Found 2 recently arrived males along the same stretch of road, singing their hearts out as they foraged for food. Saw this guy take 2 dark hairless caterpillars in short order. Had my FOS Prairie warbler too, but couldn't get close enough to that bird for any decent images.
