Cochran Shoals. Chattahoochee NRA.
It is thrilling for me to watch swallows soar thru the air but has been nearly impossibe to get a crisp well-focused photo of one. Was happy to find this one perched for a brief moment in good light.

Imagine you are a carpenter ant scurrying along beneath the bark somewhere in your wood passageway. You feel secure and warm in your tunnel and then......A thud on the ceiling. Suddenly a jackhammer slams thru the ceiling above you, followed by.....a long slitherly tongue many times your size that hits you with a force that knocks your breath away. The next thing you know you are being jolted away from that formerly warm, secure passageway, stuck like glue to that moist intruding tongue.

Cochran Shoals, overcast conditions. Chattahoochee NRA. A lifer for me.
There were around 7, mostly darker then this bird. This one popped up on an exposed branch but the others were less cooperative, but had good looks with the field glasses. See darker bird with slightly decurved bill in comments below:
Other notable sighting today was 2 FOTS northern rough-winged swallows. Alas, no picture of them.

Atlanta, Georgia. Cochran Shoals, Chattahoochee NRA.
Bird seen around 1:45 PM from the boardwalk at Cochran Shoals. It was not possible to get a unobstructed shot and the photo is heavily cropped even at 500 mm.
