A ribbon lake in northeast Oregon, the lake in the Wallowa Mountains is considered one of the "seven wonders of Oregon." Impounded by high moraines, it was formed by a series of Pleistocene glaciers.

The area has a fascinating history. The Wallowa Lake area was inhabited by the Wallowa band of the Nez Perce tribe prior to the exploration of the area and the formation of the U.S. State of Oregon.

The lake and its surrounding area was guaranteed to the Nez Perce as part of the Treaty of 1855. This lasted until the discovery of gold in the area and the subsequent rush.

Arrival in the Palouse from the south is fairly dramatic. You rise on escarpment from the semi-arid area along the Snake River for about 15 minutes and at the top see seemingly endless miles of green rolling hills and farmland. There's a big sky and on this day, some big clouds.

Along with wheat, Canola is crop often found growing in the Palouse. This field is a couple of miles west of Colfax, Washington.

I'll be traveling on business this week and may not have much time to review and comment on all of your wonderful photos but will do so whenever possible.
