El Zulo es una escultura de bronce de Víctor Ochoa expuesta en la explanada del puerto de la ciudad española de Cartagena (Región de Murcia). La obra, de 4,80 metros de altura y 2 toneladas de peso, muestra a un hombre reflexionando desnudo y sentado, abrazándose las piernas y con la cabeza recogida, casi en posición fetal. Fue elegida por el Ayuntamiento para representar el homenaje de la ciudad a las víctimas del terrorismo.

La estatua, que anteriormente se había expuesto en los Jardines del Retiro de Madrid, fue inaugurada en su actual ubicación el 4 de abril del año 2009 en presencia de autoridades como la alcaldesa Pilar Barreiro, el presidente de la Región de Murcia Ramón Luis Valcárcel y la vicepresidenta de la Asociación Víctimas del Terrorismo, Ángeles Pedraza.

The Zulo is a bronze sculpture by Victor Ochoa displayed on the esplanade of the port of the Spanish city of Cartagena (Region of Murcia). En septiembre de 2007 se inauguró una escultura con forma de cola de ballena de 5 m de altura por 8 de ancho en la dársena de botes del Muelle de Cartagena, junto al antiguo Club de Regatas. La escultura, creada por el artista local Fernando Sáenz de Elorrieta, ha sido fabricada en acero corten y pretende dar un efecto de zambullida de una ballena en las costas de Cabo Tiñoso y Cabo de Palos, zona de paso para las migraciones de estos mamíferos.

In September 2007, a sculpture with the shape of a whale tail 5 meters high and 8 meters wide was inaugurated in the dock of boats of the Muelle de Cartagena, next to the old Regattas Club. The sculpture, created by the local artist Fernando Sáenz de Elorrieta, has been made in steel corten and aims to give a dive effect of a whale on the coasts of Cabo Tiñoso and Cabo de Palos, a passageway for migrations of these mammals.

El puerto de Cartagena está formado por dos dársenas independientes, la de Cartagena y la de Escombreras, separadas entre sí por una distancia de 1,5 millas. La dársena de Escombreras está especializada en el tráfico de graneles líquidos y sólidos y en actividades de almacenamiento.

El Ayuntamiento de Cartagena ocupaba un edificio del s. XVIII, ubicado en la Plaza de Santa Catalina o de las Monjas. El deterioro que sufría dicho edificio, el desarrollo que estaba experimentando la ciudad a finales del s. XIX, y la aparición de una burguesía más afianzada, hicieron conveniente levantar un nuevo edificio adaptado a las distintas expectativas.

Se decidió construir un nuevo edificio donde antes estaba el antiguo, y fue encomendado al arquitecto municipal Tomás Rico, colocándose la primera piedra el 7 de marzo de 1900, con un acto oficial presidido por el alcalde Mariano Sanz Zabala.

El edificio, cuyo coste fue de 1.780.437,37 ptas., fue inaugurado en 1907, aprovechando la visita a Cartagena del rey Alfonso XIII y el rey Eduardo VII de Inglaterra para la firma de los “Pactos de Cartagena”. En enero de 1908 la Corporación se instaló en el nuevo edificio.
