I'm pretty far behind on sharing images from my latest adventures. In January I scouted Guyana for future tours. It was a fascinating experience... a small, oft-ignored destination with a host of wildlife (sometimes hard to find) and lots of unique species.
This species is anything but unique. I've seen spectacled caiman plenty of times before in other locales... nonetheless, this was a nice pose as we floated past it on a remote jungle river.

Realized I haven't posted many of my 2023 faves here.
Though I had seen a handful of bobcats over the years in Yellowstone, I’d never landed good photos. And I had never seen one in the park interior, despite numerous near-misses. I finally broke my dozen year curse thanks to a cat that was feasting on the carcass of a mule deer (the deer had fallen some 200 feet off a tall cliff above). We were fortunate that the cat was still there at the start of my trip, over a week after it had first been spotted.

This small feline was one of five different cat species we targeted during my October Borneo trip. We only saw the two smallest (this and a leopard cat), and sadly, this was the best photo opportunity either provided. Nonetheless, it's one of the smallest felines in the world (certainly the smallest I've ever seen), and is listed as an endangered species.

It was a real treat seeing this species for the first time during my Borneo scouting trip. We also caught a fleeting glimpse of a Brown Wood Owl just before this, so I was happy this one posed for photos.

Perhaps the most fascinating encounter of my Zambia trip occurred when hyenas came up to a small pack of wild dogs. The two species sniffed each other out, almost in a friendly manner. Eventually, however, the dogs tired of the hyenas’ presence.
The wild dogs provided not just this moment, but several other great encounters over a week's time, which is why they were featured in my favorite images of the year collection.
