After visiting Switzerland to photograph squirrels in the Arosa mountains (~2000m) I put together a collage to show the main colour variety that I have seen here versus Göteborg, Sweden. It's worth noting that they are a different subspecies, but AFAIK that has nothing to do with the melanistic (black) colouring. Most Eurasian Red squirrels are not black. It seems to be related to them being at higher altitudes, but that doesn't explain the ones in Denmark. If anyone has any info about this please let me know.

Swedish Subspecies = Sciurus Vulgaris Vulgaris
Swiss Subspecies = Sciurus Vulgaris Fuscoater

If you'd like to see more images and read more squirrel info that I have collected about the Eurasian Red squirrels, you can see my page here: www.edwardnoble.com/squirrels
Also please free to correct me if any of the info there is wrong :)

Ongoing exploration of work as I develop a potential series "Introspective Illumination". This project is a deeply personal exploration of mindfulness and self-reflection. It is set against the relentless pace of our hyperconnected society with its incessant urgency and the pervasive challenge of accomplishing more in less time. The project seeks to juxtapose the relentless pursuit for efficiency and productivity with the inherent human need for rest and contemplation.
