Studio 26 flash assignment.

I love to get sunstars from using a small aperture and for the assignment decided to try lighting Taivas with the flash. I'm disappointed with how this turned out. It looks too posed and there's too much sun flare on Taivas. Maybe I should have waited until the sun was higher in the sky.
Taivas was on the grooming table, the camera on a tripod below her and pointing up so I could get the sky and sun in the shot. The flash was through a snoot (homemade from a piece of black card) directly on to her face. The flash head was zoomed right in to narrow the beam - something I have learned about after my reading up for this assignment), though I have since thought that probably I didn't need to use the snoot, but could have used bare flash and had it on camera, with Taivas facing me rather than in profile. I held the snoot and triggered the camera by remote control. I also found that the camera's auto focus struggled, presumably because of the extreme bright light. Btw, when I've done sunstars before I've not used the viewfinder (worried about the sun) and for this one I used live view.
One thing I do like is the multi pointed sunstar, produced by the little 18-55 kit lens, it is better than my wide angle lens which only gives a 5 point star. I would like it to be sharper.

Week 12 in 52 Weeks for Dogs and this shot is an experiment which didn't work out as planned but I still quite like the result.

Another try for the Studio 26 flash assignment.
Flash was on manual at full power, shot through an opaque plastic dome covered with a thin cotton cloth.

Studio 26 flash assignment, flash off camera through mini softbox, right of camera and bounced off white ceiling.
Flash setting TTL, the flash head zoomed in to 50mm - I am not sure what difference that made, just playing about with it as I've just discovered what it does :o)

Studio 26 flash assignment
It was sunny yesterday when I started to set up the shot for a sunstar but by the time I was ready this is what I got! But it's quite a pretty shot even so and I also used the high speed sync here without realising it!
