Week 22 of 52 weeks for dogs.

I was practising panning again this morning and yet again getting mainly terrible shots of not only a blurred background but also a blurred Taivas. When I got this one up on the screen it gave me a smile to see Mary's Missy had got in the shot too, totally unplanned. It also makes Taivas look really fast! So while it is far from a good shot technically I have chosen it for this weeks shot.

f/10, 1/80, iso100, focal length 38mm, shutter priority, centre weighted metering, exposure compensation -0.33

This is also my first contribution to my new 'Group Learning for Photography' group, as our assignment this month is panning.

Although there is a reasonable amount of blur here I think it would have been better with an even slower shutter speed.
This was a shot I tried with the VR off.

I had some more panning practice this morning, just sitting at the side of the nearest main road. I tried various settings - this is my best effort.

It is certainly much easier to pan motorbikes, cars etc than a moving dog.

More practise at panning again this morning, using my 85mm macro lens - which is meant to be a sharp lens. I tried doing Missy here without success. It looks to me as if the sharpest part of Missy is nearly her back/tail! The shutter speed is faster than the focal length of the lens but I'm wondering I need to take the crop factor into account??
