Torres Vedras
" On the stillest day
not enough breathe to rock the hedge
it smashes the low sun smithereens.
At night it knocks stars from their perches
and casts a rythmic beating of the moon
into my room in bright blades.
It kneels into the wind-race
and slaps black air to foam.
Helping to lower and lift it again.
I feel it thrash dark water
drumming with winds from the Americas
to run through my finger's circle
holding the earth's breath."
