With our snowshoes on, we only hear the snow crunching under our feet. All around us, the trees are frozen under their layer of snow and ice, suspended all winter long in their movement on the heights of the Lapland hills in Finland.

Raquettes aux pieds, nous n'entendons que la neige qui crisse sous nos pieds. Tout autour de nous, les arbres sont figés sous leur gangue de neige et de glace, suspendus tout l'hiver dans leur mouvement sur les hauteurs des collines de laponie, en Finlande.

The cold winter sun is setting early during the lapland winter. It's not shining enough to melt the thick layer of snow covering the trees on Kuertunturi hill.

Le froid soleil hivernal se couche tôt pendant cette saison en Laponie. Il ne brille pas assez pour faire fondre l'épaisse couche de neige qui recouvre les arbres de la colline de Kuertunturi.

In that month of February, the temperature had dropped to around -25°C on the Kuertunturi hill in Finnish Lapland. After climbing the few hundred metres on snowshoes, we can finally admire the still landscape, with those trees trapped in their ice gang as far as eyes can see.

En ce mois de février, la température était descendu vers -25°C sur la colline de Kuertunturi, en laponie finlandaise. Après avoir gravi les quelques centaines de mètres en raquettes, on peut enfin contempler le paysage immobile, ces arbres emprisonnés dans leur gangue de glace qui s'étendent jusqu'à l'horizon.

In the middle of the night and of the forest, all is still but the sky over my head where northern lights are graciously moving and flashing their incredible colours.

Au milieu de la nuit et de la forêt, tout est calme, sauf le ciel au-dessus de ma tête où les aurores boréales se déplacent gracieusement et font clignoter leurs incroyables couleurs.
