This is one of the 3 original shots used to make the HDR image posted below.
This one is at 0 EV; the other two used were at +2 and -2 EV. I've posted it here for comparison purposes only, and will take it down in a day or two.

Boarding the Nieuw Amsterdam in Funchal Harbour, this was the scene over the shoulder. The city climbs the volcanic mountain in the background.
3-shot HDR, handheld; Photomatix Pro and PS3.
There remains some noise in portions of the sky, in spite of 2 turns through Noiseware Pro. I did some Selective Colour to pop the blues and reds. Some Healing done to the sky to eliminate blow-outs, and sharpening at the end.

One of the main streets in Funchal, it climbs and weaves its way up the mountain seen in the background; the lanes of traffic are divided by a wide ditch, 20' deep, with slow-moving water, rocks and dirt. Car and pedestrian bridges cross this ditch at main intersections.
Strung across from side to side is wire mesh, on which sit flowers and bushes which partially cover up the rather unsightly ditch bottom.
3-shot HDR, handheld; Photomatix Pro and PS3
A portion of the marina at Funchal, Madeira. These yachts were safely in harbour as those storm clouds rolled over the volcanic mountains.
Note once again the homes climbing up the mountainside, disappearing into the mist and fog.
3-shot HDR, handheld, Photomatix Pro and PS3.
Funchal Lovers, Version 2: Thanks to Warren's Pix for a suggestion to present this image in a square format, losing the green railing in the lower right from the original.
Please let me know if you have an opinion or a preference: original or square.
