The Gladstone Hotel is the oldest conntinuously operating hotel in Toronto. Built in 1889 as a stylish hotel across from the then-existing Parkdale railroad station, it provided rooms for travelers from the Parkdale station as well as visitor and exhibitors at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE). Its location, on Queen St. West just east of Dufferin St, was once considered the western edge of Toronto. Its design incorporates details from the Greek, Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance eras. It has recently undergone a complete restoration and was featured in the recent Doors Open Toronto (2011) weekend.
