One of the main streets in Funchal, it climbs and weaves its way up the mountain seen in the background; the lanes of traffic are divided by a wide ditch, 20' deep, with slow-moving water, rocks and dirt. Car and pedestrian bridges cross this ditch at main intersections.
Strung across from side to side is wire mesh, on which sit flowers and bushes which partially cover up the rather unsightly ditch bottom.
