Taken on Feb. 22, 2009, at Houston, TX, USA. Light pollution is quite severe in H-town and the faintest stars visible by naked eyes on a completely clear sky are of only about magnitude 4, so the comet is basically invisible here, even through my 135mm lens. So I had to make several attempts with the aid of star charts, trying to locate a "blob" on the preview screen of my camera. And since the image quality of the lens is not very sharp, and my lens is not accurately calibrated, the star spots appear quite large and blurry in the picture, making the software DeepSkyStacker fail to locate stars and stack my 30 images automatically.

This was taken before I tried to find the Comet Lulin. I took the original picture with 10mm focal length and crop this part out for stacking because the distortion made full-frame stacking with DSS (which does not have distortion correction function) impossible. The bright stars on the lower right are Hydra's head.

I made the second attempt because I screwed up the focus in the first one. Because of sharper focus I need to have faster shutter speed to prevent trailing, and (since the lens is quite slow w/ max. aperture f/5.6) thus higher ISO is needed. The resulting pictures have smaller star spots making auto-stacking with DeepSkyStacker possible. The final stacked picture, although more grainy the the previous one, shows the tail of the comet much more clearly.
